Who is West Michigan Candle Co.?
My name is Rebecca Stead and I am the face behind West Michigan Candle Co. I am a 27 year old homeschooling stay at home mom entrepreneur. I have 10+ years of experience in customer service and took a business management college class in high school. Why is this worth mentioning? Because I want to make it known that I also take customer service very seriously on top of making quality producst. I am just a very simplistic person who loves to create! The home fragrance products you see on this site are handmade by myself personally. Website design, labels designs, product photos, and the final products are done by yours truly.
I started West Michigan Candle Co. in 2019 as a means to stay home with my kids after quitting my waitressing job. As a child my mother would always tell me, "You will end up being in a job of creativity and using your hands." My mother had one part wrong - it's not a job because I enjoy it so much!
This business means more to me than just the amount of orders that come in. It's a way to spend time with my kids showing them how to create with their hands. It's a way to teach them if they work hard enough they can achieve anything.
The Process
I'm not here to make a quick buck and move on. Before launching in 2019 I spent roughly six months testing and perfecting my candle making process to provide high-quality candles. I test all of my products to ensure they all meet high quality standards. The great thing about buying from a small business is an actual person is handling your order. Each order is checked for quality assurance before leaving our hands. I have put my heart and soul in this business. I am proud of the products we offer and I know you will love them as much as I love making them!
The Goal
My goal with West Michigan Candle Co. is to continue giving back to those less fortunate. We will never use our contributions as a sales pitch nor will you see us ever plaster it all over our social medias.
I also want to provide other families with non-toxic products. Having a big family myself I understand the unwanted odors that comes from having a big family so when I was thinking of a business to start my first thought was CLEAN HOME PRODUCTS. As a mother to 4 children I also know the stress of running a large household so I wanted to combine a clean home product but also something that would help others mentally and that's how we came up with the idea of West Michigan Candle Co.!
I hope to one day have a storefront to have community activities at and start a program for kids and teens to have something fun and educational to do.
Lastly, I hope this business is something that I can pass down to my children as a reminder to them that if you dream big enough you can achieve it.
Products
We have come a long way since 2019 and have expanded our line of products from just candles to include wax melts, lip balms, air fresheners, and room sprays.
Our products are 100% non-toxic. We use a 100% natural wax blend while using clean fragrances that don't obtain phthalates or carcinogens. In addition, we use cotton wicks in our candles for clean beautiful smoke. The best part is that they also give a good strong scent.
